Leading the Revision of Social Sciences in Japan: Bridging Towards a Sustainable Future

Advancing cutting-edge research built on a strong foundation

  • We will play a leading role in advancing and significantly elevating the level of social science research in Japan to a global scale by utilizing our strong research foundation, established through years of leadership in social science and humanities research in Japan.
  • We will promote the integration and co-creation of the humanities and sciences from a social science perspective by enhancing collaboration between the newly established Graduate School of Social Data Science and the existing faculty, aiming to establish a new academic field that transcends traditional boundaries.
  • We will promote interactions and collaborations with various domestic and international research institutions, including those in medicine, science, and engineering, to promote interdisciplinary research.

Establishing a diverse and inclusive academic community of excellence and an international research network

  • Recognizing the diversity of academia, we will create an inclusive academic community of excellence.
  • We aim to connect world-class researchers and conduct collaborative research by expanding the Hitotsubashi Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) as a hub within the international research network.
  • We will create an environment wherein young researchers can dedicate themselves to their research, fostering a vibrant research community that serves as the foundation for enhancing and developing research capabilities.

Development of personnel to translate cutting-edge research outcomes into societal impact

  • We aim to develop researchers capable of bridging pioneering research results to address diverse social issues and drive value creation through industry-academia-government collaborations, not only in Japan, but also globally.
  • We will support the activities of faculty and students that contribute to enhancing practical value, such as the social implementation of research results and entrepreneurship.
  • We will develop methodologies to foster research personnel capable of innovating academic systems and promoting pioneering research, as well as management personnel capable of solving social issues and creating value.
