User Guide

You can visit us at the 1st floor of the Clocktower Building in Kunitachi Campus. You are recommended to make a contact with us before your visit.

We will confirm beforehand the location and the status of the materials which you are looking for. Some of the materials may be impossible to use such as ones that contain personal information, etc. Thank you for your understanding in advance.

A Brief history of Hitotsubashi University History Archives

Hitotsubashi University History Archives

In the year 1962, former University President, Taizo Takahashi suggested a plan of Hitotsubashi University History Archives. For the 100th anniversary of the University, "Hitotsubashi University Academic History Materials", "Hitotsubashi University Academic History", and "Hitotsubashi University Chronology" have been published. Also, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary, "Hitotsubashi Daigaku 120 nenshi: Captain of Industry o koete" (The 120 Years' History of Hitotsubashi University) was published in 1995. Based on 120-Years', 120 and 5 Years' was rewritten and enlarged in English. On these backgrounds "Hitotsubashi University, 1875-2000: a hundred and twenty-five years of higher education in Japan" was published in 2000 by Macmillan Press.

On April 1st, 2004, at the time of incorporation of a National University, "Hitotsubashi University School History Publication Grant Management Internal Regulations" was not took over by Hitotsubashi University and then the "School History Publishing Committee" was dissolved. Since then, the History Archive has been managing the collection of on-campus materials, by assigning Director of the University Library to the “Informal-Director” of the Archives. Meanwhile, on July 12, 2006, former Director of the University Library, Osamu Saito shared "his thoughts on the University Archive" at the Advisory Panel, and they reached an agreement.

On March 19, 2014, the "150-Year History Preparation Room of the Hitotsubashi University" was established under the University President's decision and the Director of the University Library appointed Professor Yoshiki Enatsu as the Director. In April 2014 University Library founded the "Kodaira Research Library and Archives" and set up the "150-Year History Preparation Room" in the library.

On January 1st, 2023, the Vice President of the University holds of Director of the University History Archives under the University President's decision In addition, the General affairs department set up a "School History Archives" section.
