Vice President and Representatives from the University of Ghana Visit Hitotsubashi University
On November 6, 2025, Professor Felix Ankamah Asante (Pro Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Development)—along with three representatives from the University of Ghana and a representative from the Ghana Embassy in Japan—visited Hitotsubashi University (HU).
Pro Vice-Chancellor Asante delivered a lecture at a HIAS seminar organized by the Hitotsubashi Institute of Advanced Studies (HIAS) on the theme “Green Revolution in Africa and Sustainable Development.” His lecture highlighted sustainable agriculture and social development in Africa from the perspectives of agricultural and development economics. Professor Yukichi Mano (Graduate School of Economics), Professor Takashi Kurosaki (Institute of Economic Research), and 20 students and faculty members participated in the seminar and subsequent Q&A session.
Following the seminar, Pro Vice-Chancellor Asante, Vice President Albertus Jiro Rei Yashiki (Global Engagement), Assistant Vice President Kazuhiro Obayashi (Global Engagement), and Professor Jun Akamine (Graduate School of Social Sciences) participated in a meeting focused on the establishment of an academic exchange agreement between the two universities. Positive views were shared in the meeting.
Subsequently, an exchange session was organized with the faculty. In attendance were Professor Ayako Honda (Graduate School of Economics; Director of HIAS Health); Dean Asako Nakai and Professor Shinji Koiwa (Graduate School of Language and Society); and Professor Shinsuke Suzuki, Associate Professor Yujin Woo, and Associate Professor Yoh-ichi Mototake (Graduate School of Social Data Science). They introduced their graduate schools and centers and discussed their research fields.
HU intends to actively strengthen its partnerships with universities and institutions overseas, particularly in the Global South—with a focus on Africa, including the University of Ghana—to advance the internationalization of education and research.
