The Fourth Hitotsubashi Global Advisory Board Meeting
Hitotsubashi University has set up the “Hitotsubashi Global Advisory Board” to advise the president regarding the administration of the university and its research and educational activities from an international perspective. The fourth board meeting was held online on Monday, December 15, 2025.
Comprising three external members and the president of Hitotsubashi University, the board has been established to support small group discussions. The external members are current and former university presidents who possess broad and extensive expertise in university administration as well as in educational and research activities. Professors Arnoud De Meyer (former President of Singapore Management University), Edeltraud Hannapi-Egger (former Rector of Vienna University of Economics and Business), and Monte Cassim (President of Akita International University) attended the fourth meeting.
With the theme “Diversification of International Students,” the board members discussed initiatives to diversify the countries/regions of origin of degree-seeking international students and increase the proportion of those students. The members engaged in a lively exchange of ideas, discussing proposals such as defining clear internationalization targets, designing strategic scholarship programs, offering English language programs, and strengthening the university’s brand, as well as implementing measures to support international students’ cultural adaptation and promote interaction with Japanese students.
Based on the discussions during this meeting, Hitotsubashi University will enhance its recruitment strategies for international students and advance efforts to promote internationalization.
