The 2nd Joint Academic Forum with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the Institute of Japanese Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

On October 15, 2024, the 2nd Joint Academic Forum with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) and the Institute of Japanese Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IJS CASS) was held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Vice President Albertus Jiro Rei Yashiki and faculty members attended from Hitotsubashi University.

 

SUFE and Hitotsubashi University concluded an academic exchange agreement in 1988 and a student exchange agreement in 2010, and have since developed deep and wide-ranging exchanges in many areas, including student exchange programs and faculty/staff exchange lectures. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Hitotsubashi University concluded an academic exchange agreement in 1999, and have continued to exchange mainly in the academic field, including joint symposiums and reciprocal visits by faculty and staff.

 

In order to further strengthen the foundation of these three institutions’ longstanding exchanges, Hitotsubashi University, SUFE, and the IJS CASS have concluded a “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation Framework for Holding International Academic Forums” in 2023 and will continue to hold Joint Academic Forums.

 

The second Joint Academic Forum this year, was held under the general theme of “Public Governance in the Period of Big Data,” with researchers from various institutions discussing public governance in Japan and China, as well as social changes brought about by the rise of big data. From Hitotsubashi University, Professor Chihiro Shimizu of the Graduate School of Social and Data Sciences, Professor Iichiro Uesugi of the Institute of Economic Research, Professor Reo Takaku of the Graduate School of Economics, and Lecturer Wenzhen Xu of the Graduate School of Business Administration gave lectures and comments.

 

In parallel with the Joint Academic Forum, Vice President Yashiki, Executive Xiaochuan Liu of SUFE, and Secretary Kun Yan of the IJS CASS held the Representative Meeting for further cooperation between three institutions.

 

Hitotsubashi University will further develop cooperation with SUFE and the IJS CASS, which are one of China’s leading universities and think tanks in the social sciences, by holding Joint Academic Forums with both institutions.
