Requesting Permission to Distribute and Archive Articles in “Hitotsubashi Journal of Law
and Politics” to Databases unaffiliated with the University

 

 We, at Hitotsubashi University, aim to develop top-level research in the field of social sciences, and are committed to widely sharing the outcomes of our education and research. Hitotsubashi Journal, our academic journal, has been published and archived through our Institutional Repository “HERMES-IR”, as well as a number of electronic archives, databases etc., and reaches out to readers across the globe.

 

 Recently, we have received a request from Hein-On-Line, a U.S. database in the field of law, to include in its database, the full text of one of our journals, Hitotsubashi Journal of Law and Politics from the first issue. Taking this opportunity, we would like to ask the copyright holders (authors and successors to copyright) of the articles published in Hitotsubashi Journal of Law and Politics to provide us with permission to have their article(s) distributed and archived by Hein-On-Line and other electronic archives, databases etc., unaffiliated with the University.

 
 Please note that copyright holders are not being asked to transfer copyright. Permission for publication and archive refers to the following:

  1. to digitize the articles published in the volumes in the table below (in accordance with Right of Reproduction, Article 21 of the Copyright Act of Japan)
  2. to distribute and archive the digitized articles of the Hitotsubashi Journal of Law and Politics on the Internet through electronic archives, databases, e-journal services, etc. unaffiliated with the University (in accordance with Right of Public Transmission, etc., Article 23 of the Copyright Act of Japan)

 Copyright holders who do NOT wish to grant permission are kindly asked to notify us at the below address by September 15th, 2023.

 
 Those who kindly grant us approval do not need to respond. We will assume that approval has been given and will offer electronic files of the articles to Hein-On-Line and other archive/database aggregators, etc. after the above deadline.

 
 Please note that distribution and archiving shall both be suspended immediately upon notice from copyright holders regardless of the deadline.

 
 Similarly, in December 2013, we asked Hitotsubashi Journal copyright holders for permission to archive electronic versions of their articles. Permission given at that time was solely for archiving in HERMES-IR, the Hitotsubashi University Institutional Repository (https://hermes-ir.lib.hit-u.ac.jp/ir/index-e.html.

 
 The purpose of this notice is to confirm the approval of the copyright holders to distribute and archive their outcomes in databases provided by external aggregators unaffiliated with Hitotsubashi University.

 
 Please be informed that we have already received permission to electronically publish the recent issues of the Hitotsubashi Journal of Law and Politics that are not mentioned in this notice.
