President Nakano Participates in the SIGMA Presidents’ Conference and Research Symposium
On May 22, 2024, the Societal Impact & Global Management Alliance (SIGMA), a global alliance of nine social science universities, held its annual Presidents’ Conference at Renmin University, China. President Satoshi Nakano represented Hitotsubashi University at this conference.
Founded in 2016, SIGMA is a network of nine universities that are internationally renowned for management and business research and education and that aspire to create societal impact. SIGMA facilitates research and educational exchanges and partnerships between these universities.
Twelve senior officials from member universities, including presidents and provosts, attended the Presidents’ Conference. Joint activities organized by SIGMA universities during the previous year were reported. Subsequently, the officials discussed future activities and agreed to jointly organize the following year’s research symposium.
On the day following the conference, Professor Ayako Honda of Hitotsubashi University served as a panelist at the Annual Research Symposium, where a lively discussion on the topic of “Demographic and Energy Transitions” was held. In total, 13 sessions were held over 2 days, including one facilitated by President Nakano.
In 2025, SIGMA will celebrate its tenth anniversary. With the Presidents’ Conference and Research Symposium as springboards, Hitotsubashi University will expand its partnerships with SIGMA member universities to create social impact and improve its international presence.
