Hitotsubashi University and International Criminal Court signed an Academic Exchange Agreement

On August 4, 2025, Hitotsubashi University signed an academic exchange agreement with the International Criminal Court (ICC). Judge Tomoko Akane, ICC President visited Hitotsubashi University to participate in a signing ceremony with Satoshi Nakano, President of Hitotsubashi University.

 

The International Criminal Court is a permanent international court established to investigate, prosecute and try individuals accused of committing the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole, namely the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression. The ICC’s current president is Judge Tomoko Akane, a former prosecutor from Japan.

 

In August last year, President Akane visited Hitotsubashi to lecture on the ICC’s significance and its role in international criminal justice.

Under this agreement, Hitotsubashi and ICC will work to revitalize academic exchange and cooperate in Hitotsubashi students’ participation in ICC’s internship program. After the signing ceremony, Albertus Jiro Rei Yashiki, Vice President for Global Engagement, and Keisuke Takeshita, Dean of the Graduate School of Law, joined the discussion to exchange opinions on future collaboration and global education.

 

Hitotsubashi University will actively continue to promote cooperation with international organizations to globalize education and research.
