President Nakano Participates in the International Academic Symposium on the 150th Anniversary of Hitotsubashi University in Taiwan
The International Academic Symposium commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Hitotsubashi University was held at National Taiwan University, Taipei on June 14, 2025, with the participation of the Hitotsubashi University’s President, Satoshi Nakano.
The main theme of the symposium was “Hitotsubashi University in the Modern History of Japan and Taiwan,” reflecting on the relationship between Hitotsubashi and Taiwan, celebrating the achievements of Hitotsubashi alumni in Taiwan, and envisioning future developments. The symposium was organized by the Wu San-Lien Foundation for Taiwan Historical Materials, Taiwan Chapter of Josuikai (Alumni Association) and the Ikujo Ko Research Group, Hitotsubashi University. It was also one of the 150th Anniversary Projects of Hitotsubashi University.
In his opening speech, President Nakano expressed his appreciation for the partnerships and networks that have been built by Hitotsubashi alumni who are active in various fields in Taiwan. He also mentioned his expectations of deepening understandings of Japan and Taiwan, and of strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two regions. Following the opening speeches, researchers and students from Japan and Taiwan gave lectures. In the lobby of the venue, Hitotsubashi students held a studying abroad advice session for prospective students.
The presidents, vice presidents and other representatives from our partner universities—National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Taipei University, and Soochow University—attended the symposium. A total of 200 attendees participated, including Hitotsubashi alumni and former exchange students. Participants celebrated the history of Hitotsubashi and Taiwan and renewed old friendships.
Hitotsubashi University will strengthen its network of alumni, universities, and related organizations around the world to enhance its international presence. An event to commemorate the 150th anniversary is scheduled to be held in Beijing this November.
