Hitotsubashi University 9th Kansai Academia Symposium “One year since the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Plant Accident—Review of energy policy”

We will hold the 9th Kansai Academia Symposium “One year since the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Plant Accident—Review of energy policy” on Saturday, March 3, 2012.

You can watch the past Kansai Academia Symposiums here.

As a university of the social sciences, Hitotsubashi University analyzes and suggests solutions to problems through the “Kansai Academia Symposium,” which organizes symposiums and lectures in the Kansai area.

It is almost one year since the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant, caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The accident has necessitated a sweeping review of Japanese energy policy. What should we do with nuclear power plants? How about the Tokyo Electric Power Company? We also need to consider what to do about the overall electric power system and about energy policy. It is part of the role of university academics to penetrate intransparent situations and indicate future directions. Researchers from our University specializing in law, economics, business administration and history will take this opportunity to present their recommendations.

Following the keynote speech by Professor Takeo Kikkawa (Graduate School of Commerce and Management), we will have reports by Professor Shigeru Takahashi (Graduate School of Law/Dean, School of International and Public Policy), Professor Makoto Saito (Graduate School of Economics), Professor Hirotaka Yamauchi (Graduate School of Commerce and Management), and then a panel discussion coordinated by Eiji Ogawa (Board Member/Executive Vice President). Your participation is warmly invited.
