Hitotsubashi University has kept the first place all over Japan for the last six consecutive years in the selection ratio for Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI). The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology chose 46 projects from Hitotsubashi applications this year. The selection ratio is 63%(54.8% in 2009), whereas the national average is 22.4% (as of May 25, 2010). (KAKENHI is the largest-scale governmental subsidy for academic research in Japan. Once a year, the government grants KAKENHI to applicants, both individuals and groups, in Japan conducting scientific research ranging from the humanities and social sciences to the natural sciences, who passed the peer review assessment. The annual budget of KAKENHI for FY2010 is about 135.6 billion yen (1,503million US$).
