The university is to be constantly alert to this issue for school health. Every students is expected to help preventing the spread of swine flu at the university as well as in the community. c) Washing hands with soap and water and wiping your hands with a clean cloth are effective to keep the virus at bay. Alcohol spray is not necessarily powerful since it evaporates quickly and loses its antiviral effect quikly.
Typical symptoms are : fever (37.5℃ or above) AND two of the followings: unusual tiredness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath, coughing, loss of appetite, aching muscles, diarrhoea or vomiting.
a) Contact a doctor: call a hospital before you go to see a doctor. Make sure to wear a mask when you go to the hospital. You will have medication prescribed and be told to rest at home if you are diagnosed as having swine flu, or type A flu. Tamiflu works well if taken within 48 hours after infection, so don’t wait to see a doctor, even if you start feeling ill at the weekend or on a national holiday.
b) Those who have lung diseases, heart diseases, kidney diseases, diabetes should ask their doctor since they need to be trated more as "at risk" groups.
a) Stay away from school until you make a complete recovery, which is defined as at least 2 days after the fever goes down without an antipyretic drug or any cooling devices. Your doctor should advise you when to start going out. Please note that students having such infectious diseases are not permitted to attend university during a legally set period.
b) Contact the Health Center at Kunitachi campus (phone number: 042-580-8172, 8:30am to 5:15pm, Monday to Friday) and inform staff of your situation to let them know the actual status of the pandemic in the univercsity to take the right action in case of an emergency. Temporary closure of the university might be considered if there is a sudden and large increase in the number of cases.
c) Contact those who you have spent time with closely over an hour during the day before the onset or after. You shuld inform them of the fact that you have contracted swine flu since they could contract it soon and should be told to take their temperature, refrain from going out, wear a mask when they go out.
